How is a Plastic Chair Made? From Raw Material to Comfort: The Production Journey
Plastic chairs owe their status as one of the most practical furniture items in modern life to both their durability and mass production technologies. With expertise dating back to 1980, these processes blend traditional craftsmanship with modern techniques to ensure maximum efficiency. Here are the production stages of a plastic chair in the factory:
1. Raw Material Preparation and Mixing
The production process begins with plastic granules called high-density polyethylene (HDPE) or polypropylene (PP). These small pellets form the core structure of the chair.
Durability Additives: To ensure the chair maintains its color against sunlight in outdoor settings, special additives providing UV resistance are added to the mix.
Coloring: To achieve the desired aesthetic look, color pigments are mixed with the raw material to obtain a homogeneous blend.
2. Injection Molding
This stage is the heart of plastic chair manufacturing. The prepared raw material mixture is transferred into the heating tanks of massive machines.
Melting: The plastic granules are melted at temperatures of approximately 180°C to 250°C until they become a fluid liquid.
Injection into the Mold: Under high pressure, the liquid plastic is rapidly injected into steel molds. Specific designs, such as the "Oslo Collection" or the "Flower Series," come to life thanks to these precision molds.
3. Cooling and Shaping
The hot plastic pressed into the mold is rapidly cooled via cooling channels inside the mold. During this process, the plastic hardens and takes the exact form of the mold, including the seating area, backrest, and leg structure. In modern production lines, this stage is optimized to occur within seconds to ensure an exceptionally fast process.
4. Ejection and Finishing (Retouching)
Once the cooled chair is ready, the mold opens, and the product is removed by robotic arms or operators.
Deburring: Any excess plastic (burrs) formed at the joints of the mold is carefully trimmed away.
Quality Control: Every manufactured item is rigorously checked to ensure it is defect-free, the assembly points are secure, and the surface quality is flawless.
5. Final Assembly and Packaging
While some models are produced as a single piece (monoblock), others, such as the "Metal Series," have their plastic bodies joined with metal legs at this stage. Products undergo final checks to ensure they are fully guaranteed before being packaged for shipment.
This meticulous production approach, which has continued since 1980, ensures that "rock-solid" products are delivered to a wide market stretching from Gaziantep to the UK.
